Palestine-Israel: Not even 10 years of joint struggle and the fruits are already ripe*

Tue, 01/13/2015 - 18:24
The Israel main daily Yedioth Ahronoth revealed in the morning of 13-1-15 a classified document of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs: "Worsening European measures against Israel... fear that the US stop using its veto power in the Security Council... a particularly gloomy forecast for 2015. It shows how far the political tsunami could reach, and in some ways has already begun". It seems the many thousands of international activists and dignitaries who participated in the joint struggle with the Israeli activists of the anarchists against the wall together with the Palestinian popular village comities were the catalysts that put the struggle on the media agenda again and again till the minimal mass already reached. First, the video clips invaded the main stream media, than Bil'in Habibti documentary and the pick was expressed in the 5 broken cameras award... and like a snow ball rolling down the mountain it is unstoppable now. For freedom of speech, against the Sacred Union

Tue, 01/13/2015 - 16:14
Alternative libertaire, Mouvement des Objecteurs de Croissance, Nouveau Parti Anticapitaliste, Parti Communiste des Ouvriers de France

The slaughter perpetrated atCharlie Hebdo editorial offices has caused a perfectly legitimate wave of indignation and anger, that we share. Our condemnation of this massacre, that aims at wreaking terror and silencing journalists defending freedom of speech, is total.
We condemn with equal determination the murderous antisemitic violence that has been unleashed against a cosher supermarket's customers.

Charlie Hebdo and the hypocrisy of pencils

Mon, 01/12/2015 - 07:53
It was Herald Sun cartoonist Mark Knight who tipped me over the edge.

To be fair, he wasn’t wholly responsible. If it wasn’t for all the lunacy that preceded him, I probably would have dismissed his cartoon as just another Herald Sun atrocity, more a piece of Murdoch-madness to be mocked rather than trigger for outrage. But context is everything. And after days of sanctimonious blather about freedom of speech and the Enlightenment values of Western civilisation, his was one pencil-warfare cartoon too many.

Je ne suis pas Charlie (I am not Charlie)

Sun, 01/11/2015 - 18:29
Translator: Evelin Cotella. Correction by Diarmuid Breatnach
To begin with, let me make it clear from the outset that I consider the attack on the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo to be an atrocity and that I do not believe that it is justifiable under any circumstances to make a military target of a journalist, no matter what our opinion on the quality of his journalism may be. The same is valid in France, as it is in Colombia or in Palestine. Also, nor do I identify with any fundamentalism, whether it be Christian, Jewish or Muslim, nor indeed with Frenchified mock-secularism either, which makes a goddess of the “République”.

An Interview to a DAF militant about the solidarity for Rojava social process

Sat, 01/10/2015 - 17:01
Introduction: Since the Kobanê siege started I have been dedicated several hours per week to understand and divulgate as much as possible about this social revolution initiated in a combination of Apoism and the Syrian Civil War. As a militant, I always have been involved in international solidarity. As an Arab descendent, I always have been trying to find a reliable left-wing force combining direct action and internal democracy. As a scholar and a Professor of Geopolitics studying the region for more than 25 years, Rojava is a dream coming true. Here I start the first of some interviews to organizations with real experience in this process and on the ground. This one I’m talking to Devrimci Anarşist Faaliyet (DAF, or Revolutionary Anarchist Action). They have been very active in this activity and understand in details the whole Kurdish process, both in Rojava and inside the Turkish State frontiers.

Charlie Hebdo: Norway's Christians didn't have to apologise for Anders Breivik, and it's the same for Muslims now

Fri, 01/09/2015 - 05:37
It's as if no one in any Western country has ever gone berserk with a gun in a public place before.

n the Wake of Charlie Hebdo, Free Speech Does Not Mean Freedom From Criticism

Thu, 01/08/2015 - 08:23
On Wednesday morning, the French satirical paper Charlie Hebdo was attacked by three masked gunmen, armed with kalashnikovs, who stormed the building and killed ten of its staff and two police officers. The gunmen are currently understood to be Muslim extremists. This attack came minutes after the paper tweeted this drawing of ISIS leader Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi.

Incomplete memoirs of early Egyptian anarchism

Thu, 01/08/2015 - 03:28
NOTE by Lucien van der Walt: English translation by Nestor McNab of three parts of the historical memoirs of I. U. Parrini – one of the initiators of the anarchist movement in Italy and Egypt, from the days of the First International – which were published in Italian in “La Protesta Umana” of San Francisco, nos. 36, 38 and 40 (21 Nov. and 26 Dec. 1903, and 9 Jan. 1904 respectively). This material is provided for purposes of historical recovery: it must be noted that Parrini was (according to Tony Gorman's 2010 overview of Egyptian anarchism) a "staunch anti-organisationalist, ... notorious for his uncompromising style and ... a persistent obstacle to greater cooperation among anarchists. Not until after his death in 1906 was a national program of action agreed which provided a solid basis for collaboration within the Egyptian movement." His current was in constant conflict with the growing, eventually ascendant, anarcho-syndicalists. Nonetheless, these memoirs -- despite their polemical quality and imbalances -- are a valuable testimony, deserving of wider circulation, not least for their insider view, from the perspective of one current in the movement.

The material is sourced from Leonardo Bettini, "Bibliografia dell'anarchismo, volume 2, tomo 2: periodici e numeri unici anarchici in lingua italiana pubblicati all'estero (1872-1971)" (CP editrice, Firenze, 1976), translation by Nestor McNab. Via Lucien van der Walt.

On Charlie Hebdo

Wed, 01/07/2015 - 14:11
Many journalists at the offices of Charlie Hebdo have been murdered by bampots brandishing what appear to be machine guns at close range. It is too soon to have a complete, coherent political narrative of these killings. All one can have at this point are the correct but platitudinous points about there being no justification for this, that all attacks on journalists are abhorrent, that freedom of speech must be defended to the last drop of blood, and so on. If you really need that sermon, you’re in the wrong place.

Colin Ward's Anarchism

Mon, 01/05/2015 - 23:18
What Can We Learn from Colin Ward?
Colin Ward was one of the most influential English-writing anarchists for 60 years. Anarchists of every sort can still learn much from him. Yet revolutionary anarchists have criticized him for being gradualist and reformist.

Palestine-Israel, The joint struggle and the activists of the popular committees continue to contribute to the imminent end of the 1967 occupation*

Mon, 12/29/2014 - 06:00
Bil'in, Ni'lin, Ma'sara, Nebi Saleh, Sheikh Jarrah, Qaddum and South Of Hebron Hills
The approaching victory in the struggle to block the advance of the Zionist settler colonialist project and even to force it to retreat a bit do not make the real good people to like the enrolling of history. The approaching defeat make the Israeli elite take desperate steps and do its atrocities in the open. The efforts to transfer the Bedouins within 1948 borders and villagers in 1967 occupied territories escalate. The diminishing support of Israel by the imperial power due to changes in the dynamics of the region, world public opinions and economic losses it cause gradually change the power balance within the Israeli capitalist elite that may be expressed in the coming elections. On the ground, the joint struggle in Bil'in, Ni'lin, Ma'sara, Nebi Saleh, Sheikh Jarrah, Qaddum, and South Of Hebron Hills, is gradually expanding to other locations even without the "shield" of Israeli activists. The”normalization” of diplomatic relations between the governments of the USA and Cuba should help eliminate many antiquated impediments imposed by these very same governments upon basic human bonds in both countries. [http://www.anarkismo.net/article/27720]

On 16 December 2014, Spanish police launched ‘Operation Pandora’. Round-ups, searches, and arrests were carried out at squats in the ‘Casa de la Montaña’ district of Barcelona, at the libertarian San-Andres reading room, the anarchist Poble-Sec reading room, as well as 15 private homes.

Palestine-Israel, The joint struggle to the backdrop of the end-of-the-world "status quo" and as catalyst in our region*

Mon, 12/15/2014 - 05:47
Bili'n, Ma'sara, Nabi Saleh , Ni'lin, Qaddum, Sheikh Jarrah
The old world order, in which US interests in the region East of the Mediterranean let Israel - a bastion of the US - continue with its Zionist settler colonialist in the 1967 occupied Palestine, has ended. Europe has started to advance its own interests, which are not in accord with the Israeli bastion. The independent steps of Europe are enhanced by its public opinion against Israeli colonialism to which the joint struggle in the West Bank contributes a lot. It was the approach of the imminent crisis that forced the Israeli Prime minister to call for elections, to save himself from the normally-timed election when the crisis would be the main agenda. The murder of the Palestinian minister of the popular struggles has focused attention on the ferment and rising of the popular non-armed struggles of which Israel is contemplating suppression with systematic use of live ammunition. No to Golden Dawn in Australia!

Sun, 12/14/2014 - 05:43
The working class must take the issue in its own hands!
During the last 3 years in Greece, savage austerity imposed by the Troika (International Monetary Fund, European Central Bank and European Commission) has crippled the country’s economy. The austerity has led to a depression that is as bad, if not worse, as the Great Depression was in the United States. Enjoying the atmosphere of anguish and despair associated with economic depression, Golden Dawn has flourished, espousing an ideology of hate. It is in effect a Fascist party that promotes anti-Semitic, anti-immigrant and misogynist chauvinism and has grown to become the third most popular political party in the country.
